Gratitude.

On this Thanksgiving Eve, I'd like to give a "shout out" to things I am Thankful for (do people still do shout outs? oy vey... i'm so out of touch)

I am thankful for you--yes you, blog reader. Thanks for accidentally stumbling upon my sporadic blog.

I am thankful for my health- aside from a few seasonal bloody noses and a thyroid issue, i seem to be doing ok.

I am thankful for my family, they are an awesome bunch of peeps.

I am thankful for my little nephew--Wilson (technically, he's a part of my family, but he's a fairly new member so I want him to feel extremely welcomed).

I am thankful for blizzards that aren't so life-threatening and more of a convenient excuse to leave work early to spend time with those I am thankful for.

I am thankful for my friends--even brief, witty facebook comments from friends i haven't seen in years help me get through the day.

Lastly, I am thankful/grateful/appreciative to the great and wonderful BOB! He's better than me in so many ways... ok, in every way, yet he still married me. Thank you for doing so, Bob. You're the best! Love your face.

Happy Thanksgiving, folks.

Party Crashers "Hot Dance Band"

So... Check out Bobby's party band---known as the "Party Crashers"

Yup, they're pretty good.

However, my favorite part is during the Party Crasher's rendition of Katy Perry's "Hot n' Cold"... The lead female vocalist, Jenny Frogley, sings "Woo!" off camera... whilst a blurry Bobby mouths it on camera. He's just having a jolly good time!

Check it out at 2:27.

Adorbs!

How to Survive a Zombie Attack

So, after nearly 5 months of marriage (woot woot), the differences between Bobby and I are starting to show. For example, I'd like to think of myself as an "adapter"... if something changes in my environment, I don't complain--I simply adopt new habits that align with my new environment. For example, if the floor is littered with dirty laundry (read: I use the entire floor of our apartment as my own personal laundry hamper), I simply step OVER the clothes. You see, simple! Believe you me... I know which piles are clean and which are dirty... I think.

Bobby is a what I like to call, a "problem solver." You see, when a problem presents itself, he actually seeks an answer---a concept which is entirely foreign to me. For example, whenever something breaks, he actually fixes it. Weird, right? Until recently, I didn't know things could be fixed. My way of "fixing" an appliance was buy buying a new one. But hey, different strokes for different folks... amiright?

This is where zombies come in.

We are watching the new AMC show "The Walking Dead,"... You know, the show about a man waking up from a coma and finding a Zombie Apocalypse had occurred.

Bobby would be like the show's protagonist, Rick Grimes, who single handedly (mostly) fends off zombies in the search to find his wife and son. He also searches for a "cure" to zombiedom (besides a good ol' brain bashin').

Should I ever wake up in a Zombie Apocalypse, I would immediately lay down and and hope to get bit/eaten/become a zombie. You see? I would adapt my new surroundings.

I mean, being a zombie wouldn't be so bad, would it? The zombies I see don't seem too depressed... nor happy... They are "comfortably numb."... And I'm always in a continual search for food anyway... and after all, when in Rome....

Why I can never have children...

The reason why I can never have children is because I find plants too demanding.

Bobby is quickly finding out that my "Domestic Goddess" abilities I was so vociferous about during our courtship may have just of been a bill of goods.

When Bobby and I moved into our apartment at the senior center, I asked Bobby if we could buy a celebratory plant that I could take care of... my VERY FIRST PLANT!!!

Bobby obliged and we bought this beauty:

Pretty Purple Pansies touched with Yellow Gold!

I promised Bob that I would do whatever I could to take care of it!

You know, put it outside and water it--at least once a week.

Well....Here's the same plant, a month later:

Having a plantz iz HARD!!!

Obviously, I didn't do so great this first round. This plant died of SEVERE neglect. Bobby's a little horrified of how quickly I lost interest in my first/very own plant. Lord knows what I'd do to a kid.

I mean, Bobby's basically a single parent already with regard to me. Maybe I haven't "matured" as gracefully as a twenty-five year old should have by now. For example, for dinner I fixed us a fabulous meal of Fruity Pebbles with a side of TinkerBell Fruit Snacks (DA BEST!). (In fact, I have restructured the food pyramid so "high fructose corn syrup" was the bottom/largest tier)

As for my housekeeping ability? Well, you know that awful, horrible, no good, very bad roommate you had in college. The one who was malodorous, into chicanery, ultimately nefarious**--I'm right here!!!! Yup, and I married this great guy named Bobby... and I'm just as bad as I was in college!

Oh, and let's not forget the little "ant" problem.

Domestically Disabled, indeed!

**But that roommate DID study for the GRE!!!

The ants came marching two by two...

This morning, I woke up to see this:

Ants... lots of 'em... all over the kitchen. Not only that--but crawling all over me.

As it turns out, maybe my last blog post should have been a warning sign. We spotted a few ants in the kitchen yesterday, so we scrubbed our kitchen down and bought an ant trap. Last night--I was sleeping on the couch (which is technically next door to the kitchen). I woke up to feel little tiny insect workers crawling all over my arms. Well, I FLIPPED!!! Took a scorching hot shower--scalding enough to get me through a Haz Mat unit.

You see, I have this thing with "ants"... it all happened a long, long time ago.

My family was vacationing in Hawaii. I was eating a DELICIOUS chocolate chip muffin. I decided to save part of it for later, so wrapped it up again, but it on the counter in my hotel room, and proceeded to go to the beach with a t-shirt over my swimming suit (no one will ever see my chubby thighs that way).

Anyhoo... I returned to the room to finish the chocolate chip muffin, started eating it (as you do), when I noticed... THE CHOCOLATE CHIPS ARE MOVING!!!!

LOTS AND LOTS OF LITTLE, TINY, ITTY-BITTY ANTS AND CRAWLING ALL OVER THE PASTRY!!!

Not only that... but many had become stuck in my teeth and on my tongue!!!!!!!!!!!!

YIPES!!!!

I threw the muffin out the window, ran to the bathroom, brushed and brushed and brushed my teeth to try and rid my mouth of that "ant-y" flavor... I had to FLOSS ANTS out of my teeth--because there were so many, and they were SUPER tiny.

That's my horrible ant story.

And now you know.

Skinny Minnie

Most days... I wish I was thinner...

But then I realize that I would have to give up my gluttonous eating habits--and I'm just not willing to do that.

Lunch=Soft shell chicken taco, tatar tots & coconut cupcake. Dinner=Tuna & cheese sandwich, onion rings & a Diet coke.

So... damn... good.

Luckily, photoshop will help me lie to my posterity about my physique.

The Big Sleep

So... Bobby and I have an issue. We cannot sleep in the same bed--it's impossible! There's elbowing, kicking, biting, crying, gnashing of teeth, and it's a two man brawl free-for-all until dawn. It's HORRIBLE! In the morning, Bobby and I look like we've been cast in a George Romero movie.

Therefore, I've come to the conclusion that people (especially the married kind) are not supposed to share a bed. It's unnatural and against God's will.

I have also concluded we need two separate backs--just like in Hay's code era of Hollywood where marital couples must sleep in two separate beds on camera (a la Lucy & Ricky Ricardo).

I now renounce anything that has not been approved by the Motion Picture Production Hay's Code of old Hollywood: That means Bobby and I must sleep in two separate beds, never ridicule clergy, and avoid the topic of white slavery.

Photoshop Fail

Nice Job, Cosmo.

"I'm Bobble Head Britney! Nom! Nom! Nom"

However, there is an interesting, innovative article about 50 ways to please your man (!!!SPOILER ALERT!!!!: "Touch his penis" is 48 of the 50 ways).

Cosmo always gives me deja vu.

I do believe in spooks! I do,I do, I do believe in spooks!

Soooooo… I’ve been getting into the “Halloween” spirit kind of early and have been “google”ing ghosts, ghost stories, ghost pictures, EVPs, ouija boards, boogeymen, vampires, gypsies, cyclops, gollums, UFO's, candymen, Manson Family Members, Edward Cullen and Batboy (the musical). I have also been watching movies like Poltergeist, 1408, and Secret Window. Now, I'm fine with watching these paranormal, spooky, creepy, slasher movies… during the day. However, it is nighttime when my imagination runs rampant and I get totally FREAKED out.

The other night—I woke up in the middle of the night and had to use the restroom really really badly (Side effect of my gallons of diet coke, lemonade, coffee and watermelon diet). However, I was too scared to get out of bed. Thus, a conundrum. I was fairly positive as soon as I got up Linda Blair from The Exorcist would be waiting for me in the hallway.

or possibly Elvira: Mistress of the Dark...

Either way, pretty frightening.

My solution? I just lied there, in my bed, hoping I could just fall back to sleep… I’m pretty sure I did irreparable damage to my kidneys. Stupid imagination.

That being said—Keep sending me scary stories! I love reading them and will continue to do so… during the day.

This just had to be said....

Have you heard the Mel Gibson rants?

INSANE! He needs to be locked up. Seriously, he is the EPITOME of an evil abuser husband--such a caricature usually only exists in afternoon "LIfetime" movies (ya know... the channel for women about the abuse of women).

Here is my adaption of the "Wheel of Power & Control" that can be found in any social work class.

You're killing me, Smalls!

I went to the store the other day and saw SUPER HUGE MARSHMALLOWS!!!
we're talking.. ginormous (portmanteau of gigantic+enormous).

Needless to say, we now have s'more sundays.

I once heard that the difference between a wife and a girlfriend is 30 lbs...I'm getting there quickly.

Candwich

You know what really sucks about sandwiches?
Making 'em! Am I right?
It's like "Oh. My. Gawwwwwd. Crunchy or smooth peanut butter" and "why does my jelly look all liquidy but not" and "OH NO! this bread is so moldy it's actually penicillin"

Well, finally, someone has heard my silent sandwich prayers...
Introducing, the "Candwich"
It's a sandwich... in a f---ing can.

The Candwich comes in three savory flavors: Peanut Butter and Strawberry Jam, Peanut Butter and Grape Jam, and (wait for it)... Barbecue Chicken.

If only they had this when I was in college... I wouldn't have had to make my own sandwiches like a sucker.

The Candwich concept is something so horrible--but yet I am compelled to share it with everyone.

Twinkies... I am so sorry for the way I treated you. You have been exonerated from your status as the most disturbing food processed food that I clandestinely eat.

Trying to be Green, Ending up Black and Blue.

So... this week I attempted to be "green" by riding my bike to work. It was all a part of the http://cleartheairchallenge.org/ I decided to try. It challenges people to reduce pollution from July 1-July 31.

As luck would have it... On July 1st, I begin my quest to being a better overall human being by riding my bike to clean the air and get some exercise when.... CRASHHHHHHH.. i completely biffed it! I tried to turn from the street to the sidewalk and I... missed.

I FLEW off the bike and tried to catch myself by sticking out my hands straight out in front of me... big mistake.
Scuffed up my hands real good, sprained my right elbow (ya know, the favorite one), and road rash on the right side of my body.

It made for a really miserable weekend-- Life as a lefty is horrible.

When I got to work--the nice peeps in the warehouse created a makeshift sling for me out of cellophane. It... was awesome....!

This incident has only inspired me create the biggest carbon footprint possible--I vow to toss my empty water bottles near the tire bonfire I got in the backyard, only drill offshore (and always spill onto the pelicans), and smother a spotted owl every time I hear a Justin Beiber song.

ps. Never google "Caught self with hands"... I was trying to explain how I got my injury to google and... well, that search term leads to sites that have NOTHING to do with falling off a bike.

Sorry... wrong number....

The following takes place on July 1, 2010. 9:18am.

Bobby accidentally sends a text meant for Courtney to her father--Chris.

I can't look at either of them the same way again...

Ode to Bob (WARNING--sappy).

Last Friday, Bobby got to play his first STADIUM GIG!!!--Which was awesome. He and the "Party Crashers" were the first in-house band that Real Salt Lake has hosted during a game... The Party Crashers provided music throughout the game and the halftime show. It... was awesome...! Bobby even received a free Xango jersey. (HUGE score because they are rather expensive).

The kid is crazy talented--he had three gigs last week and has at least one gig every week for the rest of the summer. He plays at Rio Tinto again for the 24th of July Real Salt Lake Game and I am super excited about that... because there will be fireworks involved.

I love Bob like crazy--He is so much better than me in every way and thankfully he didn't realize that before the wedding. I met Bobby back east in Boston. Although we are both from Davis County and we both and graduated in 2003, we had never met each other until Boston. Which is our kind of neat/weird story. I had always sworn that I would date out-of-state and out-of race---And when I moved to Boston, I meet a kid like me! Small world.

Bobby is such a freakin' sweetheart, it is unbelievable. As a matter of fact, even his friends and family are uber sweethearts... so, maybe by extension--I'll become a sweetheart? Naaaaah... nothing can melt my heart of ice!

Forced to be Green

Then yesterday, I'm driving home from work when...

KA-CHUNK, KA-CHUNK, KA-CHUNK!

My car is driving funny... as in, my car is leaning towards the back, right tire. I get out and find the tire COMPLETELY FLAT! like, i'm riding on the hub cap here...

Now, I am someone who avoids work at all costs--especially physical labor. It gives me the heebie jeebies to think about it... (shudder)... Naturally, I have no idea how to change a tire.

Unfortunately, my lovely better (MUCH better) half is at rehearsal all week for his big stadium gig this Friday. So..... he won't be able to help me change the tire until Saturday...

THEREFORE...

I am forced to ride a bike to work... until Saturday... Forced to be "Green"

**12 days of "marriage" and/or living in sin--no sign of the wedding certificate yet. **

Finally...

The only reason why I haven't read "Jane Eyre" was because it didn't have any pictures. Fortunately, I stumbled upon this little gem at Barnes and Noble this weekend...

The ILLUSTRATED Jane Eyre!

It also appears to be illustrated by my 8th grade emo self...

Now I have to finally concede to reading Jane Eyre!... Well, maybe... I have a new rule: Now I will only read graphic novels. If "Jane Eyre" becomes a comic book, then I'll consider it...

(ps. Graphic Novels should contain nudity. Lots of it).

Ahhhhh.... marriage

Well, Bobby and I have successfully been married for almost a week (pat on the back.)

Well, I think we've been successfully married for a week. The truth is, we have no idea what happened to the marriage license. We did indeed sign the license after the ceremony, but I'm not sure where it ended up. I'm hoping someone mailed it to the state--but this has yet to be confirmed. If the license is lost (I have a theory someone is using our marriage license as a coaster)--that means that Bobby and I have successfully been living in sin for almost a week! HAZAAAH! (That's actually a little more exciting).

The wedding went off without a hitch...(other than the loss of the license). It was supposed to be held in memory grove, but due to adverse weather conditions, we moved it indoors to Memorial House. But that was pretty a-ok because we lit the fireplace and lots of candles and it was super cool. The ceremony was short--7 minutes tops, then we got to eat...! (which is my favorite part of any wedding--including my own).

I had gotten these amazingly delicious cupcakes for the reception (c/o "Wish upon a Cupcake") in lieu of a wedding cake. The cupcakes were so amazing that I didn't even get one! Everyone had taken one, two, three, four, or five cupcakes--Which is a good thing.

We had a string trio playing music... which was awesome. We bought bubble wands for kids so they could play outside. There was no line (a cardinal rule I had for my own wedding)... people just mingled. I thought it was awesome... even if other people didn't.

I'll post pictures later (as soon as I get them)... In the meantime... here are some of my bridal shots c/o Anna James. Anna is ridiculously talented.

Then... as predicted, as soon as I got back to work--people asked when we were planning to have kids. I told them never because Bobby's physically incapable of adopting.

Again, a special thanks and kudos to our friends and/or family! You kids iz awesome.

GR-Attitude!

Now, for a serious blog (I promise not to do this too much...).

I just wanted to say that I am so thankful for my awesome husband Bobby (a complete sweetheart), my awesome family (they rock), super cool in-laws (James Family--you're the best!) and for my wonderful friends. I originally didn't want to do a reception because I figured zero to no people would show up for my side--however, on the day of our reception---LOTS of awesome friends throughout my life showed up! I was SUPER pleasantly surprised.

So, thank you so much for well wishes! Everyone who has wished Bobby and me good luck--thank you! I really appreciate you in my life--You'll never know how much you have overwhelmed me with your kindness! Even Facebook comments made my whole day...!

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!!

Bobby is awesome (and has a big drum).

Bobby plays in a band which practices every Wednesday. In this video, the singer of the band is telling her son it is "Band Night" and he gets REALLY excited Bobby will be coming over. And I think it's cute.

On a side note, I'm marrying Bobby today. Which is awesome. Because he is awesome.

Home is where my oscillating fan is...

One week until our wedding. Bobby and I finally have a place to live that doesn't rhyme with "schmy parents' basement."

hazaah.

Is a Honeymoon Worthwhile?

More Excerpts from "Living, Loving & Marrying."

Penny shook her blonde head defiantly and said, "I don't care what my family or anyone else thinks, I refuse to live with him any longer. I'm going to get a divorce."

“That’s strange,” I replied quietly. “I thought you just returned from your honeymoon. Didn’t you enjoy it?”

“Enjoy it? It was horrible!”

“What went wrong?”

“Everything! I looked forward to my honeymoon for so long, and then as soon as it began I felt let down. In fact, I was scared.”

“Scared? Scared of what?”

“Why—Jed, of course. I didn’t think he was that way. Before we got married he was so charming and considerate but on our wedding night he treated me like an animal!”

“An animal?”

“Yes, an animal. As soon as we got ready for bed he grabbed me and wanted sexual satisfaction.”

“And you resisted?”

“Well, no. I tried to be a good wife, but he seemed to be in such a hurry to satisfy himself that he hurt me physically. In fact, when it was all over, my love for him had turned to hate.”

“Did you have the feeling he was jujst using your body for sexual satisfaction?”

“That’s exactly right. He acted like—like he had just come to a drive-in for a quick snack. Why, he didn’t even notice my expensive nightgown or comment on the special perfume I had saved for our first night together. Oh, I hate him! Tell me how to get a divorce.”

Living, Loving & Marrying: Thoughts for LDS teens and Young Marrieds.

Hi Ya'll...
For now, I thought I would continue dispensing some great advice from self-help marriage books circa 1960's.
Today's lil' knowledge nugget of goodness comes from a book entitled "Living, Loving & Marrying: Thoughts for LDS teens and Young Marrieds." By Lindsay R. Curtis, M.D. and Wayne J. Anderson Ph.D.
Let me just give you the Table of Contents of this great book--and if something piques your interest, let me know and I'll throw the chapter up on here.

1. Can We Ever Be Forgiven? (No, the ceiling kitty sees all and forgives nothing)
2. Must I Pet to be Popular? (I can answer this one for you now: yes.)
3. How do I rate as a date? (If you have to ask, it's probably pretty low)
4. The case for premarital chastity. (Another Law & Order Spin-off)
5. Is it Old-fashioned to be chaste?
6. What Every Young Girl Should Know. (Don't trust men)
7. What Every Young Man Should Know. (I saw you do that thing you did)
8. The Psychology of Masturbation. (it's simpler than you think)
9. But Isn’t it a natural thing? (Nice, a rebuttal of the previous chapter)

15. Things to Consider Before Marrying Outside the Church. (God will no longer love you)
16. Please Tell my Daughter (Really? That guy?...)
17. What is the Purpose of the Engagement Period? (Easier to hit the emergency eject button at this point)
18. Should We Reveal All? (Yes, except your naughty bits)
19. Why Settle for Less than the Best? (Because your partner is settling as well).
20. Would you do it over again? (No, no one would).
21. Why Not Elope? (Because that's basically announcing your pregnancy).
22. So, you’re going to the Temple! (Yes, this really is the chapter title)
23. Is a Honeymoon worthwhile? (Here's a secret: the entire marriage isn't worthwhile).
24. Don’t let Borrowing Bury You!
25. How to avoid a fractured Budget.
26. What shall we do with our “Old” sins?
27. The Alcoholic Spouse. (And how you drove him to drink).

The Art of Homemaking. Part 1

Soooo.... to fill you in, Anna James got me this REALLY FREAKINGLY AWESOME book entitled "The Art of Homemaking" by Daryl V. Hoole. It was published in Salt Lake City in 1962.

I promise, on this blogspot, that as soon as I am married--I will dress up like Betty Draper and feel trapped in my seemingly perfect life. In doing so, I also promise to harbor great resentment and discontent about my position in society while I put up with my husband's multiple infidelities. I'M SO EXCITED!!!

Chapter 1: The Ideal Homemaker (Oh, I'm so excited to begin!)

FACET #1: An ideal homemaker is lovely to look at and lovely to be around (Damn, already failed). She has a wholesome attitude and pleasant appearance. She has the courage to be happy and strive to live above the grievous faults of moodiness (bitchiness), sulkiness (bitchiness), and complaining (SUPA bitch).

FACET #2: An ideal homemaker is devoted to the great career in which she is engaged. She is a professional in her field by being a homeaker every day and letting her devotion and sense of duty, rather than her moods, dominate her. (Did I mention stop being a bitch?)

FACET #3: An idea homemaker makes the best use of her time and energy by being efficient so that she is able not only to keep up with her housework, but she is able to be a companion to her husband (when he's not with one of his whores) and a friend and teacher to her children. She is also able to pursue some personal interests (emphasis added) which further contribute to her happiness and development.

FACET #4: An ideal homemaker plans a program or a schedule for each day so that she is the master, rather than the victim, of her work. (Stupid women, always wanting to be victims).

FACET #5: An ideal homemaker is prepared to perpetuate the good things she learned in her home and is ever alert to new ideas and hints which will make her work more effective and help her to make an increasingly better homemaker. (HGTV anyone?)

FACET #6: An ideal homemaker exercises patience, understanding, and imperturbability (my new favorite phrase) unless controlled anger and reasonable discipline are justified. (Such as your daughter dating a colored man) . She will do her best to take those occasional "bad days," when everything seems to go wrong in her stride, realizing she needs some valleys in order to appreciate the mountains. (Still, it's best to bury your emotions deep, DEEP inside.)

FACET #7: And after all of these facets have made our ideal homeeaker like a sparkling diamond, she will add a few other special facets of her own to set her apart from all the rest. (An flagrant inference to your fellating skills)

Well, that's it for tonight. Hope you enjoyed the lesson, ladies.

"The Art of Homemaking"

Oh yes... it IS as awesome as it sounds. Here's a preview of the gloriness that is this book:

There is no way I could possibly overstate this: This book is THE MOST FREAKIN' AWESOMEST PIECE OF LITERATURE IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD!

Mother's Day Miracle!!!

So... this morning... we had our own Mother's Day Miracle. Beneath our sink, we found... A HORDE OF BABY MICE!!!!

Unlike the picture, they had JUST been born. All red, and hairless.

Point of the story is: We're having baby mice stew for dinner.
