Is a Honeymoon Worthwhile?

More Excerpts from "Living, Loving & Marrying."

Penny shook her blonde head defiantly and said, "I don't care what my family or anyone else thinks, I refuse to live with him any longer. I'm going to get a divorce."

“That’s strange,” I replied quietly. “I thought you just returned from your honeymoon. Didn’t you enjoy it?”

“Enjoy it? It was horrible!”

“What went wrong?”

“Everything! I looked forward to my honeymoon for so long, and then as soon as it began I felt let down. In fact, I was scared.”

“Scared? Scared of what?”

“Why—Jed, of course. I didn’t think he was that way. Before we got married he was so charming and considerate but on our wedding night he treated me like an animal!”

“An animal?”

“Yes, an animal. As soon as we got ready for bed he grabbed me and wanted sexual satisfaction.”

“And you resisted?”

“Well, no. I tried to be a good wife, but he seemed to be in such a hurry to satisfy himself that he hurt me physically. In fact, when it was all over, my love for him had turned to hate.”

“Did you have the feeling he was jujst using your body for sexual satisfaction?”

“That’s exactly right. He acted like—like he had just come to a drive-in for a quick snack. Why, he didn’t even notice my expensive nightgown or comment on the special perfume I had saved for our first night together. Oh, I hate him! Tell me how to get a divorce.”

Living, Loving & Marrying: Thoughts for LDS teens and Young Marrieds.

Hi Ya'll...
For now, I thought I would continue dispensing some great advice from self-help marriage books circa 1960's.
Today's lil' knowledge nugget of goodness comes from a book entitled "Living, Loving & Marrying: Thoughts for LDS teens and Young Marrieds." By Lindsay R. Curtis, M.D. and Wayne J. Anderson Ph.D.
Let me just give you the Table of Contents of this great book--and if something piques your interest, let me know and I'll throw the chapter up on here.

1. Can We Ever Be Forgiven? (No, the ceiling kitty sees all and forgives nothing)
2. Must I Pet to be Popular? (I can answer this one for you now: yes.)
3. How do I rate as a date? (If you have to ask, it's probably pretty low)
4. The case for premarital chastity. (Another Law & Order Spin-off)
5. Is it Old-fashioned to be chaste?
6. What Every Young Girl Should Know. (Don't trust men)
7. What Every Young Man Should Know. (I saw you do that thing you did)
8. The Psychology of Masturbation. (it's simpler than you think)
9. But Isn’t it a natural thing? (Nice, a rebuttal of the previous chapter)

15. Things to Consider Before Marrying Outside the Church. (God will no longer love you)
16. Please Tell my Daughter (Really? That guy?...)
17. What is the Purpose of the Engagement Period? (Easier to hit the emergency eject button at this point)
18. Should We Reveal All? (Yes, except your naughty bits)
19. Why Settle for Less than the Best? (Because your partner is settling as well).
20. Would you do it over again? (No, no one would).
21. Why Not Elope? (Because that's basically announcing your pregnancy).
22. So, you’re going to the Temple! (Yes, this really is the chapter title)
23. Is a Honeymoon worthwhile? (Here's a secret: the entire marriage isn't worthwhile).
24. Don’t let Borrowing Bury You!
25. How to avoid a fractured Budget.
26. What shall we do with our “Old” sins?
27. The Alcoholic Spouse. (And how you drove him to drink).
28. Divorce, or else. (...or else = he'll murder you. It's your choice.)
29. The Myth of Falling in Love. (The most uplifting chapter of all).
30. Just what is Married Love?
31. Family Planning (A Left Wing Agenda)
32. What about the Rh Factor?

The Art of Homemaking. Part 1

Soooo.... to fill you in, Anna James got me this REALLY FREAKINGLY AWESOME book entitled "The Art of Homemaking" by Daryl V. Hoole. It was published in Salt Lake City in 1962.

I promise, on this blogspot, that as soon as I am married--I will dress up like Betty Draper and feel trapped in my seemingly perfect life. In doing so, I also promise to harbor great resentment and discontent about my position in society while I put up with my husband's multiple infidelities. I'M SO EXCITED!!!

Chapter 1: The Ideal Homemaker (Oh, I'm so excited to begin!)

FACET #1: An ideal homemaker is lovely to look at and lovely to be around (Damn, already failed). She has a wholesome attitude and pleasant appearance. She has the courage to be happy and strive to live above the grievous faults of moodiness (bitchiness), sulkiness (bitchiness), and complaining (SUPA bitch).

FACET #2: An ideal homemaker is devoted to the great career in which she is engaged. She is a professional in her field by being a homeaker every day and letting her devotion and sense of duty, rather than her moods, dominate her. (Did I mention stop being a bitch?)

FACET #3: An idea homemaker makes the best use of her time and energy by being efficient so that she is able not only to keep up with her housework, but she is able to be a companion to her husband (when he's not with one of his whores) and a friend and teacher to her children. She is also able to pursue some personal interests (emphasis added) which further contribute to her happiness and development.

FACET #4: An ideal homemaker plans a program or a schedule for each day so that she is the master, rather than the victim, of her work. (Stupid women, always wanting to be victims).

FACET #5: An ideal homemaker is prepared to perpetuate the good things she learned in her home and is ever alert to new ideas and hints which will make her work more effective and help her to make an increasingly better homemaker. (HGTV anyone?)

FACET #6: An ideal homemaker exercises patience, understanding, and imperturbability (my new favorite phrase) unless controlled anger and reasonable discipline are justified. (Such as your daughter dating a colored man) . She will do her best to take those occasional "bad days," when everything seems to go wrong in her stride, realizing she needs some valleys in order to appreciate the mountains. (Still, it's best to bury your emotions deep, DEEP inside.)

FACET #7: And after all of these facets have made our ideal homeeaker like a sparkling diamond, she will add a few other special facets of her own to set her apart from all the rest. (An flagrant inference to your fellating skills)

Well, that's it for tonight. Hope you enjoyed the lesson, ladies.
